‘Chez Renee' is a project with drawings, paintings, video and performance of Belgian artist Renee Lodewijckx . It premiered on the 19th of March, 1988, in the Avantgrade Gallery, Antwerp Belgium. The video accompanied the performances 'Je Suis Regardée' at the opening in Antwerp, and 'La Belle Morte' in the Campo Santo chapel in Ghent, on april 1st, 1988.
The title of the project, 'Chez Renee', seems like the name for an erotic cabinet, and that connotation is intentionally...
The hounting soundtrack for this project was composed by Jan Van den Broeke between October 1987 and February 1988. The words were written by Renee Lodewijckx and Jan inspired by a.o. Nancy Friday, Emma, Paul Verlaine, Joan Jonas.
The music was released on cassette in March 1988 (100 numbered copies), as part of the presentation package of the project.
In 2016, the tape was digitalized (by Rudy De Keyser, dK studio) and remastered and remixed into one long piece as it was always meant to be.
Also the video was restored, and the whole package (CD+DVD+booklet with liner notes and art) was released by EE Tapes (this is EE36 ) in collaboration with STROOM.
