Long before ABSENT MUSIC became the name of a record label, it was the pseudonym of Jan Van den Broeke for his private minimal wave-and-other experiment-like project which he had put up halfway the 80s, next to his involvement in the cultband THE MISZ.
ABSENT MUSIC released 2 cassettes: ABSENT MUSIC FOR ABSENT PEOPLE (1986) and CHEZ RENEE (1988), the latter being the soundtrack of a video and exhibition by Renée Lodewijckx. They both belong to the best kept secrets of the Belgian minimal wave of the 1980s.
ABSENT MUSIC can also be found on cassette compilations like MAD IN BELGIUM vol.2, INSANE MUSIC for INSANE PEOPLE vol.14, CORTISOL (ZNS tapes) and HOMO SEXPIENS PROJECT(3RIO tapes).
EE Tapes proudly presents its 6th 33rpm 7” vinyl EP in the EV series, revealing 5 of these hidden treasures. Restored and remixed by Jan Van den Broeke himself. First 85 copies are handnumbered and include extra 2 photographs, from a series of 10.
